Graduate in Design and Architecture at Musashi Institute of Technology

Nagoya City University Graduate School of Design and Architecture has two stages of study: the master’s
course and the doctoral course.

Research is conducted at the school by applying architectural/meta-architectural methods aimed at
integrating art and technology and synthesizing various forms of information and knowledge. The overall
mandate of the graduate school is to provide an original program of education through which students are
challenged to solve problems of enormous complexity. This is made possible by coordinating the teaching efforts of many kinds of professionals and specialists.

With this end in mind, the Graduate School of Design and Architecture engages students in two types of
educational activities: developing basic theories and applying these theories in practice. Our primary purpose is to cultivate knowledge of integrated planning and design and to enable students to gain professional understanding of new types of technology geared to the information society and to the betterment of humanity. Practical knowledge gained through projects conducted in the real world beyond the confines of our university will hopefully result in proficient practical designers and skillful integrative engineers.

The School’s aim is to deal promptly and actively to changing social demands without altering our general
mandate to maintain a responsive yet structured educational system and to encourage the initiative and
achievements of our students.

The master’s degree of Design Engineering is awarded after completion of the two-year program and the
presentation of a master’s thesis or the composition of the thesis body of work together with an exhibition and written document supporting the thesis theme. The doctoral course, whose basic knowledge should be fulfilled in the master’s course, offers more professional studies and research in Design Engineering.
