Course Content

The professional practice course, which is run in association with West Midlands RIBA CPD, is structured to address key areas of both job and practice management.

The course is assembled as a thematic series of lectures and seminars delivered over a period of eight days in total. To assist candidates in practice, the eight day course is arranged in two separate blocks, each of three days’ duration, and a further single block of two days. The eight days can be taken in sequence either as

October 2 days

or

September 3 days
March 3 days
April 2 days

The grouping of the course dates in the calendar is arranged to enable two separate examination sittings to be held in any one twelve-month period, but the eight day course must be taken in full as part of the examination sequence. Attendance at the respective course dates should be agreed individually by candidates with the course director.

The course is presented by a range of external speakers, often specialists in their own fields. The core content is in the following modules :
The context for practice
Practice management and business administration
Construction management

The course concludes with an afternoon session with the examiners to take the candidates through their reasoning of the previous examination papers.

The lectures and seminars are delivered at the level of ordinary competence, and as such the course is promoted to, and attended by, local practitioners who wish to augment their continuing professional development programmes.

Specific educational objectives
The course of Archeology and Ancient Civilizations “is to provide:
- A thorough knowledge of culture, civilization and history of the ancient world;
- A thorough preparation in the fields of philology, languages and literatures of antiquity and their fortune in the modern age;
- The ability to investigate, interpret and use the sources and means of transmission of culture and civilization of the ancient world, particularly developing the framework archaeological, both classical and medieval, which is also acquiring a sound theoretical, methodological and operational;
- The ability to make full use of the main tools and communications in specific fields of competence;
- The ability to use written and oral form at least one European Union language besides Italian, with reference to disciplinary vocabularies.

Graduates also acquire specialist skills to use in teaching of classical letters.

Graduates in higher degree courses in Archeology should have: acquired competence in the safe methods of archaeological research and the main techniques of art-historical analysis, for theoretical and applied, acquired knowledge and discernment critical for individual branches of archeology and of antiquities in the Mediterranean; fully mastered in the basic concepts, analytical techniques, and characterizing the partition of historical sciences and languages and literatures of ancient basic knowledge integrated total sull’Antichità with a variety of elements of general culture relating to methods of disciplines and approaches to the broader spectrum geographic, Demoetnoantropologico, historical, literary, etc.

Job opportunities
The preparation can reach preparation to pursue further science courses through the PhD or
Schools of Specialization, according to specific disciplines and in particular the rules, in the broader context of
rules and restrictions, work with full competence and high responsibility, in areas such as specific institutions, such as superintendencies, museums, schools, archaeological, archaeological sections of national culture.; direction of bodies and units of study and research, heritage conservation, artistic, documentary and monumental at the organizations and institutions, both public and private.
