Master of Science in Architecture at Clemson University
The Master of Science in Architecture offers the opportunity to undertake research responsive to increasingly complex challenges associated with the built environment. This is accomplished through a foundation of coursework, accompanied by directed studies within a selected area, and followed by the critical examination of a singular aspect of architecture in a research thesis. Admission is based on a portfolio, GRE scores and undergraduate credentials. A plan of study is determined in consultation with the major advisor who, along with the advisory committee, periodically reviews the student’s work and evaluates the research thesis. Requirements for the MS degree consist of 24 credit hours (one year) of coursework and directed studies with a minimum grade-point ratio of 3.0 as well as the acceptance of a six-hour research thesis. Students who have earned the Master of Architecture professional degree may be admitted with advanced standing. The Master of Science e is excellent preparation for the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning, as well as for those holding a professional degree in architecture and seeking a research qualification to initiate an academic career.
