Degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Gebze Institute of Technology

The Department of City and Regional Planning at Gebze Institute of Technology (GIT) has been offering an influential and creative graduate program since 1995. With its enthusiastic and dynamic teaching staff, this program leads graduate students to explore a wide range of topics geared towards improving physical, spatial and environmental quality of urban spaces.
City planning is inherently an economic, social, political, and physical process that applies technical knowledge, research findings, and past experience to the city of today and tomorrow. The graduate program prepares students from many different backgrounds for careers as professional planners. Applicants of the program frequently have majored in urban and regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, economics, public administration, and law.
The program combines critical perspectives on the process of urban, social, economic, and physical change in urban and in regions with technical skills required for professional practice. The Department not only provides the theoretical background to the students coming from different fields, but also gives them ability to apply their accumulated knowledge in the urban and regional issues.
Major study areas in the program are regional planning, urban planning, urban design, transportation, planning law, urban economics, spatial modelling, strategic spatial planning and GIS applications in planning.
